St. Peter’s Church in Mainz is a rococo building with twin towers topped with ornate black onion domes.
The interior features bright colors and gold – it was lovingly restored in 1989. There are beautiful frescoes on the ceiling that have been replicated (they were destroyed in the war) with paintings depicting the life of the church’s namesake, the Apostle Peter. The church was founded in 944 and the new building was built in 1748.
