Crown in the Cathedral

Speyer, Germany

The crown hangs over the crypt that holds the remains of eight Roman emperors and German kings of the Salian,
Hohenstaufen and Habsburg dynasties. The graves date from 1039 to 1298, a period that saw a remarkable shift in power from the crown to the papacy.
