After the wall went up in 1961, the only way into Berlin was by rail or by air. The only three airlines allowed to fly into West Berlin during those days were Pan AM, British Air and Air France. In those days, Lufthansa could not service Berlin. For air crews, it was an ideal assignment as flights couldn't start before 6am and all flights had to be on the ground by 10 pm
