Why I Hated Pilots in Vietnam

This is a photo of Josephine (Josie) Powell, a fabulous dancer and entertainer on a USO tour of the Far East and Vietnam, circa 1967. Her unnamed escorts are three pilots, a WO, a Capt and a Major.

I've often wondered why a simple Military Policeman didn't get those type of assignments .....???

A photograph that fulfills its purpose. Great comments and memories come to life. Thanks for sharing.

What does an ex entertainer do after she fades away. You become a Real Estate Broker, or a writer. I did both. Neither was as rewarding as being with our troops. To share bread with the.
Troops. To sit with them. To sing to them. Dance with them. Give them a piece of home. There is nothing more rewarding in life.

That was temporary. You got a far better assignment.

I feel your pain. It was a love/hate relationship. They drove us to one bad place after another and then flew away and left us there. However, when we needed replacements, supplies and most important, evacuation, they were there no matter what. I had a lot of respect for that. But I still hate the fact that they drew females like flies to honey.

The pilots had everything. Even ice cream flown in daily and small portable AC.
I read most recently, about their casualty rate. It’s
shocking. And a well kept secret.
I have to mention one thing.
THOSE LIZARDS!

Love my picture with the three pilots.
Our escorts on the flight were in civilians clothes.
On this particular route we are going to a base in north Thailand.
