1. I’m currently occupied with…
TD: I work professionally in customs/advisory/logistics for one company and I photograph in my spare time.
2.I learned photography…
TD: Hmm…I am learning with every ‘click’. I did not attend a photographic school, although I did take part in some workshops, trainings (such as: SINAR-BUS).
3. My first camera was…
TD: FED 4 with a broken lightmeter I was about ten years old then and it was the first I had held so precise a device in my hands.
4. I’ve been photographing for years …
TD: My photographic adventure started when I inherited the already mentioned FED 4. My first blow-ups were done in a basin and the first bulbs were burnt in a kind of primitive over head projector. The first nights were spent in a bathroom, then in a darkroom, and I started reading about photography. So, it all began with experiments, without any theoretical background. Then it became much easier, my own darkroom at home and another one run by me at my high school, and finally the first critique of my works by the members of Katowice Photographic Society.
5. At present I use …
TD: I use several cameras as I do not like photographing with ‘all in-one’ cameras because each one has its own limitations. I have got a Canon and Fuji cameras with prime and zoom lenses mostly L-class. Moreover, I also use an old Still Camera 6x9.
6. A one-sentence definition of photography should go as follows …
TD: “Photography- the only adventure that may last all your life.” Actually, I do not have my own definition, that should be left to the academics of photography, I simply enjoy taking pictures.
7. Photography is for me …
TD: passion, emotion, antidote, asylum, … It is a never-ending process and I still keep uncovering new elements.
8.Among my masters (not necessarily photographers) in the first place I would enumerate …
TD: I do not copy works of the others for I will never experience the same emotions as they did. I follow my own feelings. Nevertheless, some of my favourite authors are as follows: Mare Ellen Mark, Bob Frank, Salgado, Martin Parr, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Josef Koudelka, ...
9. My favourite themes …
TD: I am free form imposing any themes upon myself, but
I particularly like photographing people, people’s emotions in life and on the stage. I also enjoy photographing places and this can be anything where I feel an emotional connection: an open window, heavy downpour, overcast sky or thick fog.
10. What inspires me is …
TD: Situations, surroundings, people, …
11.The beauty of photography …
TD: There are five basic elements: an idea before the photograph, a click, an image appearing on paper,a photogram prepared for a presentation and the emotional response of a viewer. It is worth photographing for any of the above.
12. I would like my pictures to tell the viewers about …
TD: I would like my picture to evoke in my viewer’s emotions similar to those that I had while taking the particular picture. It is a dream, isn’t it?
13. My greatest photographic dream is …
TD: To continue to enjoy photographing.
14. Digital techniques in photography …
TD: It’s one of the photographic forms. Done with good equipment, it works well in commercial photography, but the magic of creation in my opinion lies exclusively in traditional black-and-white photography.
15. Digital development of pictures …
TD: It depends on their purpose. In the case of digital photography software packages are as necessary as a darkroom for pictures taken in a traditional way.
