December 12th - Tangerine

When I was a kid, it was common to send citrus fruit to relatives around the country as gifts for the holidays.
If you knew someone here in southern California, an orange was likely to show up in your bleak midwinter.
Not far from where we live there is still a farm that ships citrus in boxes as gifts.
It's not as common anymore. With the global network you can get anything in the stores at any time of the year.
This is from a bag of tree-ripened tangerines from Cathi's sister...

I spent some time at the post office today. I sent out Christmas cards and little packages to friends.
Sorry, no tangerines... ;-)

I like the way it's still got the little leaf on the top - now there's something
you don't see on the supermarket ones. :-)

Very nice image. My relatives ran the Goehring citrus ranch east of town so I know about what you speak. :-)
