Its a "garden spider". Right to the point - not posionous to humans.

for geography and climate info: I should add, we are near Sims Bayou just southeast of Loop 610 in Houston. This week has been breaking records with night-time low temperatures in the upper 80's, daytime 100 degrees. We had a wet July, also record breaking.

I just found one of these in my yard last night, kids and i are mesmerized by its size! There was a grasshopper in her web at least 3" - 3½" and she was bigger! we would just like to know if it is poisonous. I took plenty of pics with my 24-70 mm macroI was scared to get too close but i also got some good shots. There is a Houston Audubon Society nature center nearby, I am going to see if anyone is arachnid saavy or cares to see my pics or collect as a specimen. Share any info if you please. mightaswell.72@hotmail.com

We found one of these type of spiders in my back yard today 9/20/2009. Now I just need the history on it.
