Greetings, We live in the wetlands ?
of Jupiter, Fl. I just found my kitty cat patting around a baby snake approx. 6" long on the tile floor. When picking it up - it felt unlike ANY other baby snake of its size that I've EVER handled ( the top of its head felt like it was plated, and it was SUPER strong and difficult to control. I wan't worried because its eyes had a round pupil vs. a vertical slit - the coloration resembles the patterned cotton mouth - its under belly starting from its head is a solid light beige for approx. 1/3 of length. Then some of the coloration and pattern from the side of its body starts to intrude onto the solid color. The next 1/3 segment continues to have a darker background color with the introduction of small dark dots, and what appear like creases in its skin (kinda like an earth worm looks) but its skin is NOT creased, then the final 1/3 gradually darkens from overlapping multicolored dots, and the last 1.5 to 2" towards the tip of the tail -appears like solid granite.

Bottom Line: Do baby Cottonmouth's have round pupils? If yes, how long (or how old) are they before the pupils turn into the
vertical slits? If no - sounds like it must be a water snake....what are your thoughts?

Thank you for your knowledge and advise. Terri
