Fresh Pond Winter Fungi plus

Fungi can be found year round, even in the cold of winter. Trees and branches have dried up fungi, and under logs you can find some thriving, along with a few bugs.

I have an old half wine barrel for a fish pond outside and have a fungi like these pictures growing around the top edge. I constantly pick this off but it returns. I am wondering if you have any advice as to how to kill it off because the timber on the edge is starting to pick away too. Please respond to my email address as I don't know how to view answers here as I came across these pictures in a google search. Many thanks in advance.
