:: Cranes in the Berlin area ::
The area north of Berlin in the east-german state of Brandenburg is one of the most important stopover-areas for Cranes (Grus grus)during autumn-migration. As single cranes can be seen nearly all year around between October and November the agricultural areas around the village of Linum, about 30 Kilometres north of the German capital, are packed with roosting cranes.
The pictures of a breeding pair of cranes were taken in the summer in the same region.

Sometimes you don't have to travel far for good bird pictures. During an outing to the Odra river that marks the German-Polish border about 60 kilometers from Berlin, I found this group of Barn Swallows that only recently left their nest. The very actively feeding adults returned with prey every few minutes. All pictures taken with Canon EOS 10D and Canon 400, 2.8 lens.
