Sorry to hear that you already had a camera stolen. But it's bad everywhere, my in-laws just had there 15 year old bomb of a lancer (car) stolen from their car port. 2 gates (pad locked), steering wheel lock and immobiliser. The insurance is only worth $4000, and there were cars on the street that were not touched.

Anyway, these shots with your compact are great, you don't really need to play with DOF with these sorts of images. Superb collection!

The underexposure here and in lots of the shots works very well with the sombre mood of the gallery. It's as if there's a barely visible pall of poverty coating everything in a stultifying grey.

I find myself uncomfortable sometimes here in France using my Rebel. You're right, Martha. Better testify with your compact camera.

Another great documentary shot showing us how the poor and destitute live. Vote.

Si, nos hace mucho valorar lo que tenemos. Es muy triste, pero es una muy buena fotografía que llega bien al corazón. Votada

Living on the street, no home, no bed to sleep in. All that he has is the earth and the sky... Sad but true. Thanks again, Martha for showing and reminding us how fortunate many of us are. Another vote for your great documentary and risk.

Yes the dark image adds to the pathos.. good idea about the camera.

OK, I got the question Andrew, :))) As I've mentioned in the gallery caption, everytime I go out by myself to take pictures, here in Rio de Janeiro, I would be very silly to use my canon rebel. I've been mugged once with my first canon rebel. Someone just grabbed it from my hands probably to get some cheap drugs instead. That's why I'd rather not have so quality images but still being able to document the scene and in a safer way.

OMG...why doesn't he use those two chairs? the light is perfect for the scene, well done. V

Powershot, what's going on Martha? Did you keep your big gun at home today? Nice shot, the darkness adds to the bleakness. vote!
