Chaffinch (male)

Llanelli, Wales

Fringilla coelebs
The chaffinch is the UK’s second commonest breeding bird, and is arguably the most colourful of the UK's finches. Its patterned plumage helps it to blend in when feeding on the ground and it becomes most obvious when it flies, revealing a flash of white on the wings and white outer tail feathers. It does not feed openly on bird feeders - it prefers to hop about under the bird table or under the hedge. You’ll usually hear chaffinches before you see them, with their loud song and varied calls.

Hi I am trying to identify a recent visitor to my garden, the bird is bigger than a blackbird bit smaller than a pigeon, it is brightly coloured with flashes of blue and white..can you identify him for me ?

I see a lot of different types of birds through my window everyday (mostly robins) but today I saw this bird for my first time so I searched on Google and I went into this but I'm not sure if it is the Chaffinch because it flew away while I was searching

i have a few of these birds in my garden & they keep pecking on my car windows & mirrors causing damage - any ideas of how to deter this?

I identified a bird which I believe was a finch of some sort (I should say that I know absoltely nothing about birds - of any kind). It was feeding - or was it perhaps collecting material for ist nects? - on flowers in our back garden which is an area which is more or less grown wild. I t did look like the bird below, but it might have been the Bullfinch above (did not get a close enough look). We life in Dundee in Scotland so I was wondering which bird it was likely to be given the climate and habitat?

Nice shots - such beautiful birds you have in Britain. Haven't seen these fellows in the US.
