The male eider looks like a visitor from a different galaxy, especially when standing among coot.
A few eider ducks come to our region to stay for winter, sometimes getting used to humans. In the 1980's, a small group of eider duck decided to not to return to the north. They are now staying all year round close to Rapperswil SG, dive for clams, and even breed successfully every other year.
