Erythronium americanum is in the lily family. Among the common names for this species are Dogtooth Violet, Yellow Trout Lily, Fawn Lily and Adder's Tongue. The name Dogtooth Violet refers to the shape of its corm. I first learned its common name Dogtooth Violet from my mother over five decades ago. Most people probably refer to it as Yellow Trout Lily, but I default to Dogtooth Violet.
