This lone immature trumpeter swan was among the mute swans and other waterfowl on Irondequoit bay, Lake Ontario, Rochester New York, on 3 March 2005. It was still there on March 4th, so I added a few more shots to this gallery. I should apologize for the picture quality. The swan was in the shadows most of the time and it was just a few minutes before sunset. I had to use Photoshop Elements to lighten many of the images, but they are still "grainy." The identification of this bird was confirmed by The Trumpeter Swan Society. http://www.swansociety.org
29 Mar 05 Update: This guy made the local news today, because he has fishing line wrapped around one leg. The DEC and local birders are trying to catch him, so he will have a chance at survival.
31 Mar 05 Update: The swan was untangled from the fishing line, and will presumably fly away soon.
