Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is on Assateague Island and is adjacent to Chincoteague Island on the outer backs of Virginia on the Delmarva peninsula. We spent an afternoon there while attending a bicycle rally in Princess Anne, Maryland. The wild ponies in the refuge are decended from escapees from early settlers or possibly shipwrecks.
