Alasak Railroad southbound
This marked my last day in Alaska, taking the Gold Dome train south from Denali National Park to Anchorage to catch my flight back home. I had planned this hoping for good weather so that I could get some scenery shots from the train. I had done this same trip northbound in 2001, and found it to be the most scenic 7 hour ride anywhere in North America. I was on the top deck of a 2 deck luxury train car, complete with an area open to the outside to allow folks to view the scenery without any glass between them and the outdoors. I highly recommend this mode of travel for anyone who is going either north or south between Anchorage and Denali. It also extends north from Denali to Fairbanks, but the scenery is nowhere near as nice as the southern part. I also enjoyed a very nice pot roast dinner on the train, and since the weather was rainy most of the way, I spent the time meeting new friends and sharing photos from my time in Brooks Falls and Denali National Park. This proved to be a very relaxing ride and it was enjoyable, in spite of the rain.
