Common Loon

Mount Desert Island, Maine

This past June, I came across this guy hanging out in the Gulf of Maine while cruising off the coast of Mount Desert Island. He doesn't belong out there in the salt water...but he didn't seem to know that.

Nice you spotted this guy. Nice he was in breeding plumage. They are fairly common here in the Pacific Northwest in our coastal bays and inlets. One of my favorite birds.
