Total Solar Eclipse, 2017!

Words cannot even come close to explain what a life-changing phenomenon a total solar eclipse truly is! The process of observing the moon slowly cover the disk of the sun, and watching the changing light on a variety of subjects; the drop in temperature; the quick changes in animal behaviors, and to do that with a group of photographers exclusively gathered for a four-day campout culminating with this UNBELIEVABLE show of nature! I am now a total, total-solar-eclipse junky! I can hardly wait for April 8, 2024 when we'll see the next one in the USA! And you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be somewhere ready to do it all over again!!

This particular shot is of what's called "the diamond ring", which is caused by light from the sun passing around the mountains on the moon and spreading itself out in this pattern. I also was thrilled to see the prominences from the sun's corona with the naked eye. This is the sort of stuff we pay top dollar to see via special effects in the theatre. However, mother nature, or should I say, the God of creation trumps anything man can ever think of!

WOOOHOOOO!!!

I'm with you, Jim -- that was a-maz-ing!! My youngest daughter (23) was the highlight for me. She went along for the ride -- more interested in seeing the chaos than the eclipse itself. But when the eclipse went total, she was transformed -- overwhelmed, really. Said it was the coolest thing ever and "the best two minutes of my life". I just loved hearing her respond like that.
