Carnton

Franklin, TN

The site of an amazingly bloody battle on November 30, 1864, there are over 1500 unknown Americans who are buried in a small cemetery on the property, a portion of whom are seen in the foreground. The home served as a hospital for wounded for several days. The large dining room was used as an operating room, and the hard wood floors still bear the stains from multiple dozens of surgeries that day. In all, ten thousand Americans died in five hours that day. The home and the graveyard serve as respectful reminders of the absolute futility of war against brothers and insist that remembrance is key to prevention of holocaust. The old home is seen in the upper left of center.

I agree with Terry and Elaine that this is wonderfully composed. The scene is sobering.

Moving and beautifully composed, Michael.

Dear Michael,
Very sobering thoughts for such a calm and peaceful spot.
Thank you for sharing the story .
Your composition is wonderful to include the old house.
Its walls could speak volumes.

A peacefula dn stark scene Michael.
Sadly nothing has changed.
Politicians still send innocent men out
to fight their battles for them, to kill and be killed.

A moving picture. So many lives lost in this cruel battle.
