12-21-08 Sooty Fox Sparrow

Woodway, Washington

We are anticipating our first snow of the season. What with
global warming, our snows are now few and far between.

At first I thought this was an Audubon print....This a worthy image and quite well-executed.

Have a great Christmas and New Year.

Thanks so much, Hal. Yes, in fact the Black Oystercatchers here are called 'black'. I think
the term sooty perhaps refers to a dark gray rather than black coloration.
Many thanks for the good wishes, Hal and the same to you and all of our posters!

a very colourful Winter image, Terry.
Right up there with the very best.
Bird people here also use the word 'SOOTY"
As in --Sooty Oyster Catcher.
l think it's silly and call them Black Oyster Catchers.
Either way this is magnificent image
and a Natural for a Xmas Card.
Beautifully taken, Terry.
Season's Greetings to you and your family.

Thanks very much, Elaine and Andrea. Elaine, yes, I have used it for just that :). Andrea we have a Red-w1nged Blackbird, but as far as I know, we don't have Redwing thrush.

Stunning little bird Terry. We don't get much snow here in the balmy south of England either. We get a bird arriving after our first frosts ... the redwing, a member of the thrush family, that will strip a tree of berries very fast. I wonder if you have them too? (redwings, not berries!) Andrea
