Pioneer Smokehouse

This is an early pioneer smokehouse in Rochester, Minnesota. The first settlers originally built a dug-out abode in the hill (see the door to the right near the driveway). Later after a new house, barn and this smokehouse were built, the area above the smokehouse housed a school for nearby children.

Thank you, Hal, Elaine, Yvonne, Gary and Terry_O.
Hal, I believe that the historical society has possession of the grounds. They may use the building to store things, but it is not open as a museum. They allow people to walk the grounds.

A balanced and most interesting photo Cindy.
And the story makes it even more special.
l note a window open. Do people live there or is it a museum ?

What a great history lesson to accompany this well composed photograph, Cindy.
The subdued tones add a sense of time gone by,
