Thanks very much, Hal and Michael. Hal, they are after grubs in old rotted trees. Michael, the 700 mm lens combination (500+1.4x) makes all the difference :)

This is the most detailed close-up of a wo0dpecker that l've ever seen. Totally wonderful, Terry. ln my ignorance of woodpeckers, l don't even know why they peck cavities in trees !! A brilliant image.
