Dobro

Franklin,TN

Music is ageless. This 80 year old gentleman plays the Dobro, or "lap steel" guitar, a pretty common sighting around Music City. The instrument was designed by the Dopyera Brothers (thus, DO-BRO) and has a very distinctive sound, like a steel guitar, but non-electrified. Almost banjo clarity in tone, this is, strictly speaking an "inverted resonator" guitar. Gibson owns the rights for all these now, having purchased the name, and the rights about 20 years ago. Their offices are about 25 miles from our home.

There may be one or two images to come, but, fair warning, Sherri and I are going to see the world's top two "Elvis-impersonators" tonight at the Williamson County Fair. The costumes, the look, the sound...
Hope to bring back some stuff that may....well...surprise you? Pretty excited.
