Cattle Squeeze Chute

Not all that long ago, really, this cattle squeeze shoot was used to gather up the doggies and get them loaded in a truck to take to better pastures for winter.

This particular one is in a very remote area of Eastern Washington and now is on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). When I approached photographing this chute it made me think about all the cattle and cowboys who rounded up hundreds and hundreds of bovine over many years. All the work, hopes, dreams, and aspirations of everyone involved.

Now this just sits slowly decaying in the hot summer sun and long lonely winter days and nights. I love connecting personally with the wild west tangibles of the not so distant past!

Your photo and caption evoke the time wonderfully.
l can well imagine the bustle and the noise of those days.
The fortunate cattle went to other pastures.
Those less lucky took one last ride to the abattoir.
Excellent photo-journalism
