This engine ruin is on the grounds of the old Quincy Copper Mine (1846-1945) in Hancock, Michigan (Upper Peninsula). It is still sitting on the rail. Dave and I went down into the seventh level of the Copper mine a couple of years ago. It was very cold and wet. We had to wear hard hats and winter coats. One trip down there was enough, so this time we only looked around the grounds.
Such a shame to see this beauty being left to rust away.
These old treasures should be treasured.

Lovely and interesting photo Cindy.
There is a railway museum in this city that has restored old engines and coaches and
regularly takes the public for rides in the old trains.
They have one similar to this and the wooden cab is clean and varnished, and looks
so out of place behind a firebox of red-hot coals.
l'm sure they would love to restore this one
Thanks, Pete, Tony and Bob.
Bob, No, it is right out in the open in a field behind the Quincy mine and the hoist house. Keep in mind that this is in the Upper. They had a light snow fall of only 160 inches last winter, but in the late 70's they had a winter of 390 inches. It is off the beaten path and I guess criminals would not think to come up there looking for trouble. ;-)

This is pretty cool... I'm surprised it hasn't been vandalized and picked over for scrap. It must be in a protected area.
