Dyrham Park

This house is owned and managed by the National Trust, who have only recently allowed photography inside their properties. This house has been used in several films including Remains the Day and Australia.

What looks like a passageway in the doorway is actually a trompe l'oeil which is a mural made to look like a 3d image. It was painted in the 17th century by Samuel Van Hoogstraten.

I love that mural....I've seen that in windows of shops here. Great composition, Tony!

Wow, you had me fooled about the doorway! My only constructive critique would be to bring down the brightness of the carpet and the seat of the chair on the right. That would help bring out the lovely details that are there and balance out the overall image. This is really a wonderful photo, and I like your composition greatly!

What a fantastic shot Tony.
There is just so much to look at in this shot.

Outstanding image, Tony.
Gla to hear the Trust is allowing photography.
Hopefully that means you'll share more classic interiors like this with us!

I love libraries and the atmosphere there! Great picture and a fine example of trompe lóeil!

Really? NT allowing photography? That is good news because i dislike having my camera 'confiscated' at the door .... Nice shot too.

Really interesting shot.
We went to Dyrham recently but not the house - you may remember my deer shot.
This is a great idea, plus a new word for me "trompe l'oeil"
So this sort of artwork is not new at all.
And good that NT now allow photo's indoors - must revisit some local places

Wonderful interior image, and that mural is really something. It would be
easy to run right into the wall trying to go into the next room :).

I love it. That mural is fantastic and the technique could have saved me a bundle in a recent construction project. :-)
