You know, Steve, this has been posted for a while, and I look at it
every time I open TTL. It never fails to make me feel good about our
youth and the future!

I wish I could add more as this is remarkable even in thumbprint, but the others have commented more eloquently than I could
So I endorse all the comments below!!

I love this image! This is superb work. The light is fantastic. I can almost hear the music!

Steve, the lighting on this girl and the pov really make a beautiful and memorable portrait. Very nice!

A very fine soft colored and soft toned portrait!

This is why I never do portraits! I could never capture anywhere close to the technical expertise and knowledge of how to light a subject that produces such warm skin tones and the lovely clarity of this shot. It is a truly beautiful image and if you have a competition coming up for either natural portraiture or something to do with a musical instrument, you should surely win it. It is really lovely. Perfecto Steve!!

This is such an appealing image in many ways, Steve. Your work with
the lighting is perfect. Her expression shows concentration, but is
beautifully relaxed. The cello with its wonderful curves and strings
along with her hand position provides a wonderful context. In other
words, a masterpiece. Congratulations!

Lovely image Steve, she is so totally concentrating on the cello, she does'nt seem aware of the the photographer at all.

This is an exceptional portrait, Steve.
The light is perfect, timing perfect, highlights are amazing.
I really can't imagine a better shot of this young lady ...
Congratulations on beautiful work!!

Thanks Cindy. This is a single speedlight (Nikon SB900) reflected in a 43 inch umbrella. The umbrella is to her right front to get a bit of a rim light and then I exposed for her face, letting her hair and right arm blowout a little bit. The background is just a piece of black felt clamped to a bookcase behind her.

Steve, This photo is pure bliss! She is beautiful and you captured a great pose. The lighting is very dramatic (please tell how it is lit.) This will become a family treasure, I'm sure.
