Chichen Itza

I found this in my archives, I thought I had lost my Mexico pictures due to some over zealous housekeeping, but on having a clear out I found some old cd's. This was taken in 2002, using the first digital camera, a hewlett packard compact, which cost a lot of money way back then!

Chichen Itza is the most fascinating place, the pyramid El Castillo was built to align exactly with the spring and autumn equinox when the shadows at dawn line up with the corners of the pyramid to show the serpents along the edges. The mind boggles at the intelligence needed to complete this.

The climb up to the top of the pyramid is fairly easy, but coming down is a different matter as you are quite exposed to the steep steps.

The quality from some of those old cameras is quite good. Excellent photo, especially since it is not cluttered with touristas.

I've always wanted to go there...maybe one day. That sky is amazing! Beautiful image, Tony!

A pretty good image for the age, and a fascinating place.

Very nice, Tony. I'm glad that you did not loose your treasure. You and your early digital camera did a fine job.

Old or not, this is one cracker of a shot.

What a nice treasure to find, Tony. I love the dramatic clouds forming a
great backdrop to the pyramid. I often think we don't give enough credit
to our ancient ancestors for their innate intelligence as demonstrated by this
amazing structure.

This is a very fine photo Tony.
Unusual to see the pyramid without a lot of tourists at its base.
"Somewhere" l have a photo of the Serpent seen at the equinox.
Your old photo with dramatic sky, is most impressive.

Tony, I hope your find included all your missing images. That would be horrible to lose such treasures. Your image of El Castillo is so very sharp and beautiful! The storm clouds over head really make this, and provided such wonderful even light to show the details in the structure. Really nice!
