Receiving Vault

Wisconsin

I went to a local cemetery to photograph the monument on Veterans Day. I noticed a stone wall on the side of the hill in an old part of the cemetery. This door was centered in the stone wall. Hmmmmm.

Cindy, I love this one without really knowing why. It probably has to do with the additional impression that your text gives to the picture! Excellent work!

Guess they are expecting someone? What a great find...love the textures and tones. Looks like an image from long ago. Well processed, Cindy!

Nice shot and I love the banter on subject of Leica glass!

But Cindy, where else is it going to be in a cemetary, but dead centre. LOL.
But this is a beautiful shot, I love the treatment.

Thank you Terry, Hal and Michael.
Michael, This FSU lens was shimmed and collimated by someone with expertise in working with FSU lenses. The glass in FSU lenses is reputed to be stellar (Zeiss copies), but the mechanics are often not. By calibrating it for close focus and infinity, he brought the mechanics up to the standard of the glass. If you remember, this FSU stood up to the M8 and M9. I'll try to give the J8 a spin on the M6 one of these days. I just sent the iiig off for a CLA. It is too fine of a camera to be using it in less than tip-top mechanical form.

The performance of the old camera and glass is quite exceptional.
Very sharp work by the FSU lens.
I have often heard that the J glass is either extremely good, or quite lousy.
Obvious which of those you have here.
Have you tried that lens on the M6 yet?
I'd bet that there could be some fine Velvia slides once there is a snowfall...

Thank you, Pat. You posted while I was replying to Bob, so I didn't see your post. Yes, this is a very interesting cemetery. It was established in 1845 and many of the City Fathers (and Mothers) are buried there. There is a Pet cemetery section. A whole series of photos could be done on that interesting area.

Bob, Thank you. That makes sense. Thank you for the explanation. As for the processing, Kodak BW400CN scanned on the Nikon LS-9000.

It does make you stop and look. I went to a cemetery lately for bird shots and was surprised at what I saw....good capture.

Eek... spooky! I understand that in the old days receiving vaults were commonly used to store folks who died during the winter when the ground was frozen and it was impossible to dig graves with the available equipment. Very nice image... I like the processing.
