Memorial

This is the focal point of the Military Cemetery at Shiloh National Battlefield, this morning.
3500 Americans died here ours of fighting in April, 1862. 18,000 were wounded.
In terms understandable, this is a greater fraction of the US population, at the time, than the percentage of Americans lost during the ENTIRE Vietnam conflict. Had there been the communication we have today, this would have been a much shorter war...

Again you have used subtle symbolism of the shadows at the end of the day, to emphasize these shortened lives and yet the flag still stands proud giving hope for the future?

I just want to stand up and salute. A very special image which sits close to my heart.

Michael, I just love Old Glory waiving in the breeze. Showing the flag over the gravestones is makes this a very moving composition.

A very moving photo, Michael.
What a waste of young lives.
lt's bad enough sending kids to be killed fighting dictators and baddies.
But fighting your own people is very very much worse.
