its pretty amazing that our society has reached the point where the effort necessary to extract oil from the ground, or oceans, then ship it across the world to a refinery, to then turn that product into plastic, then having to shape it appropriately into a spoon, fork, knife and/or spork..... Then that item is put on other freighter ships, railroad box cars or tractor trailers (usually a combination of all the above) trucked through warehouses to your local store shelf, where you finally buy it, bringing it home.
Which is considered to be less effort than what it takes to just wash the spoon when you are done with it.
