Aston Martin developed the big-engined DBR2 to compete with the Maserati 450S and the 335-S Ferrari. When the FIA limited World Sports Car Championship cars to 3 liters for the 1958 season, Aston Martin moved its development effort to the DBR1. 3.7-litre 1957 on chassis of Lagonda DP166/2. Salvadori won at Silverstone in September 1957 shipped to Nassau, where -works car. Stirling Moss finished 24th in the Nassau Tourist Trophy , and 4th in the Governor's Trophy. Driven by Ruth Levy in two Ladies'races, crashing in the second. ,returned to the UK and in 1958 with 3.9-litre engine Brooks finished 2nd in the British Empire Trophy. Salvadori finished 2nd at Aintree, Salvadori finished 4th at Silverstone in May and Frere finished 2nd at Spa. .4.2-litre engine fitted after Spa and shipped to the United States to be raced by Bob Oker. :1958 Lime Rock, R. Oker June, 20 laps, 2nd Los Angeles Times Grand Prix, R. Oker Riverside Raceway, DNS - 1959 Los Angeles 7irnes Grand Prix, S. Moss Riverside Raceway, DNF, 11 October Governor's Trophy, S. Moss, Bahamas, 1st in heat and 1st in 4 December final; speed in final 90.95 mph. works car and fitted with twin- plug engine developing 315 bhp. ,returned to the UK and for sale by Aston Martin in March 1960. Sold to S. J. Diggory, registered 7 BXH, driven for him by Bruee Halford and Colin Escott in 196O, and retained by Diggory through 1962. sale by Diggory in October 1962 at Ł2500. , bought by Victor Gauntlett and sold at Auction in 1990 for Ł1,75O,000.

"Both cars [Ed note: Jaguar XK-E and Aston Martin DBR2/2] have been to Pebble Beach. The DBR2 was invited over to Pebble Beach in 2000 from the Monterey Historics and won the Road and Track award for the car the judges most wanted to drive. The Lightweight E-Type won People’s Choice at Pebble Beach in 2002. It was invited for the Jaguar racing car class.

I enjoyed bringing them by. Both cars are not something people see every day. They each represent a serious attempt to beat the big engine Ferraris at Le Mans and the Ferrari 250 GTO in GT racing."

The 4.2 liter DBR2 Aston Martin is the same car my Dad, Bob Oker, raced for Joe Lubin back in 1958. He won the main event, 1st Overall, at Riverside with this car in July of 1958. Was 2nd at Lime Rock and 3rd at Santa Barbara...not sure what else...I was 12 then...!!
