Northern lights in Iceland

The photos on this page were all taken with normal film cameras. I have not made them with a help of a computer or used other techniques in that way.
These are all real photographs, and if you think they are strange and unreal, wait until you see the Northern lights with your own eyes.

Wonderful images of Aurora Borealis, I have yet to see this living in central England, I often use the geomagnetic disturbance effects created by Aurora Borealis to good effect on VHF radio frequencies to communicate with other radio hams throughout Europe The Doppler effect distorts the signal so badly that voice communication via this phenomena is virtually impossible therefore morse code (CW) is the most effective mode, Thanks for sharing Ian

It starts to get a bit dark at the night in August, and if the sky is clear and activity high then you could see a realy good show nige50, but the best time to see the northern lights is from September to April.

The northern lights remind me of tornados in the U.S. Tornados are vertical columns of winds sucking up things from the grounds. The northern lights are more peaceful and colorful.

I have seen it in Scotland ( see my pictures at http://www.pbase.com/pvdwngrd/aurora_borealis ) but this is much better. In one word FANTASTIC, and an extra word WONDERFUL. We will never see this in Holland. Peter

The aurora belt is near the poles, north and south. Iceland is a really good place to see the northern lights because when the activity is normal or high the belt lies right over Iceland. The activity is all year around, but you cant see the lights in the summer time because the sun never sets completely so the nights are too bright. The best time too see the northern lights is from September to April. Thank you all for your comments. Thor Marteinsson
