Monterey (MRY) Monterey Airport is very often covered by a layer of coastal stratus. Consequently an IFR approach is a must in many cases. Mostly in winter the buildup of the coastal stratus is less pronounced, what allows for a VRF fly-in. We recommend Del Monte Aviation as the place to stop. However, there is an issue: Ramp Fee is $45 as of 2017. It is a dramatic raise from $25 2011. See Monterey in 2011. They offer a crew-car, what makes it a good deal if you use it and go to Monterey Warf, Pacific Grove or to the Aquarium. Fascinating was to see for the 1st time new Apple Headquarter in Cupertino, nicknamed "Spaceship Enterprise". We also photographed north of Palo Alto a large campus, which is probably the Facebook campus. In this nice flight we made a ride to the Pier for a lunch and stroll. Forget it in Summer without IFR flight plan... |
