Chichen Itza, 7.Oct.2014 Information about this prominent site are numerous. Here is one: Chichen Itza Facts, here are a few videos about Mayan cities: History.com However, a visitor now in 2014 will return with mixed feelings: Foremost almost everything is fenced off, one have to "stay on the lawn" so to speak. Imagine you would visit a Chateau in Europe, but... only on the outside! So it is now in Chichen Itza. Neither the great pyramid, nor the Temple of Warriors can be entered, and that was truly disappointing. Furthermore, the curator barred visitors from walking up the Maya platforms, and yet he allowed countless sales stands into the museums premises. Some are indeed artisan, others have the samo-samo trinkets. Either way, this looks like a bazaar, and the salesman often solicit their attention by calling toward the visitors: "cheaper than Walmart", "only one dalla". Many had this "jaguar roar" imitating contraption, and we heard this sound from everywhere: fishing for buyers. The premises are being closed very early at 4:30, despite the long ride which many visitors have to endure in order to get there. Tickets are for cash only, and no visitors map is provided. In a confusion we forgot to seek out the observatory! Ah well, "next time", I suppose. ATM on site was defective, keep enough cash with you! A very positive aspect is the local restaurant at the entrance. Surprising good cuisine, good service, and they take credit cards. |
