Searching for traces of the past: Chaco and Acoma pueblos, 6.Oct.1998
We embarked on a local flight (2.7h by Hobbs) with the goal to find two historic places: Chaco Canyon National Historical Park, and Acoma Pueblo "Sky City". Ten years ago we flew without GPS, by dead reckoning. The landscape west of Albuquerque is sparsely populated and mostly devoid foliage. Its a strange sight of mesas, plateaus and canyons. The air was turbulent, thus I had problems in keeping wings level. We have had no problem in locating Chaco Canyon, but it was not easy to locate Acoma Pueblo amidst of the desolate landscape. |
