Hart's Square (Festivals '04,'06,'08,'09,'10,'11,'12,'13,'14- Snow '09)

This place is the unique vision, passion and obsession of one man, Dr Bob Hart. It is the largest collection of primative southern architecture in the country. There are over 90 buildings and it's right here in Catawba County. These are but a few of them. And all of the buildings have been moved from Catawba County or those directly adjacent. They are not reproductions, but actual buildings, found, moved, and preserved by this extraordinary man.

The festival sells out quickly every year and is something to attend. Tickets are available from the Catawba County Historical Assoc in Newton. Tickets are $35.00 (5 and under free) on a first come first served basis. You can call them or go by after 9AM on the FIRST BUSINESS DAY IN OCTOBER (Oct 1, 2015) for tickets. 828-465-0383 The Festival is the FOURTH SATURDAY in October!(Oct 24, 2015) (rain or shine) The festival is a visual extravaganza of our past that comes to life once a year.

An amazing living history site. I hope one day to visit Hart Square with my husband, particularly as I am very interested in primitive living and/or decor. Saw an article in The Simple Life magazine on Hart's Square. Beautiful!

My father was the game warden mentioned on page 56 in regards to the "Butner Barn". Doc got the cobbler shop from him. My father's name was Phillip Buckner. I thought someone would like to know the correct spelling of his name for historical accuracy. I attended the festival this year and look forward to next year.

I had heard about Hart's Square from a friend of mine, so since there is a nice long grass runway at Hart's Square I and my friend Randy Chapman decided to fly over and land to look around. We found the site without any problem and landed about 2:00 in the afternoon. We were met by a friendly young couple in a golf cart who spent about an hour showing us around. Even though nothing was going on the short time we were there, it was like stepping back in time. I am from Catawba County but did not realize how unique this place is. I hope to be there during the festival this year. Capital achievement Dr. Hart!!

Both of us love historical sites and collect primitive antiques. We can't wait to visit. Please tell us when the 2009 festival will be held and how to get tickets! Thank you..

Love the photos! Can't find the historical assn. to find out when tickets are available nor when the 2009 festival is. Further, if you have some thoughts on the best way to get tickets I'd appreciate your input. BTW, if you come across a woodturner's treadle lathe please let me know as I've contacted Dr. Hart about the possibility of demonstrating that skill. Thanks

Hi, My wife is from Hickory, NC. Her brother has participated in the Hart Square festival by pouring molten pewter in antique spoon molds. My wife and I had a chance to attend the festival several years ago on a Saturday that was absolutely perfect for the festival. I burned over 10 rolls of film in my Canon 35mm camera that day. I didn't have digital then!! Dr. Hart was my wife's father's personal physician as well. My father-in-law died several years ago and Dr. Hart treated him during his illness. It's hard to describe Hart Square to anyone who has never seen it. And seeing it is a wonderful experience. My brother-in-law lives in Catawba County on Greedy Highway and is also a personal friend of Dr. Hart. Richard has 5 or 6 buildings on his property now. His claim to fame is that he has the "second largest collection of primitive southern architecture in North Carolina", second to Dr. Hart of course!! Enjoyed your Hart Square gallery... Tom
