YAMATO.jpg

Toei will be releasing the movie "Yamato" in December, based on what I'm assuming are the final days of the Japanese Battleship (which was the largest warship in the world at the time sporting 18 inch guns), sent on a one-way mission to Okinawa she was sunk by squadrons of U.S. Navy Aircraft far from her destination. From the trailer it seems very 'Titanic-esque". On display at the studio were props used in the movie including this huge model of the ship - saluting next to her was an extra who appeared in the film. Interestingly enough a very popular anime series called Space Cruiser Yamato was a hit several years ago as a futuristic version of the warship was sent off to space to save earth fighting it's way through hordes of alien invaders. The show is one of my favorites and would make a great Star Wars type of movie in the right directorial hands.
