These are a selection of macro photography I took over the past year in Indonesia. Photo shoot locations include Nusa Lembongan, Lembeh Straight, Bunaken, USS Liberty, Amed, Tulamben, and Pemuteran.
For those of you who don't know, macro photography is shooting very small subjects. For example, the pigmy seahorses are less than 1cm tall. I use a 100mm macro lens for this kind of photography and it is usually very time consuming, diving in a very small radius. I may spend up to 20 minutes on each subject so I often like to dive alone for macro work or with a maximum of two other divers. Most of these shots are taken on black volcanic sand and one small touch with a fin or hand on the sand will completely wipe out and area for photographers due to all the particle clouds! It is hard shooting but so worth it, I think I prefer this to wide angle but then again I like sharks so it is a tough one to decide!
Please let me know if you have any favorite shots in these two galleries of Indonesia as I am currently putting a portfolio together for one of the I-stock companies and I need to narrow down my favorites! Thanks so much..... Danielle
