Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny, Ireland

duck at Tinnahinch lock gate
We live about 7 kilometres from Graiguenamanagh, which is situated on the Barrow river, just about 8 kilometres from the point at which the Barrow becomes tidal. The village is centred around a Cistercian abbey about 900 years old. The beautiful bridge over the Barrow was blown up in the 1798 rebellion and links County Kilkenny with County Carlow and the village of Tinnahinch on the other side of the river. There are sections of canal all along the Barrow to make it navigable and this waterway was once a key import/export route from Dublin via New Ross on the Wexford coast in Waterford Harbour to the South. The canal was used transport grain in one direction and Guinness in the other right up to the end of the 1960s. The canal now is a recreational attraction. Enough geography and history, there are a few images of the village below.

High quality A4 and A3 prints of most photographs are available for purchase. Just leave a comment and contact email on the required image and I'll get back to you.

My photographs may also be purchased through my website AndrewJonesFoto in a variety of media.
Thanks
