Birds -- Yuba Pass and Sierra Valley, June 2007

These are some pictures from my long weekend June 28-July 2, 2007 in the Yuba Pass / Sierra Valley area. The highlight was being at a Lewis's Woodpecker nest near Loyalton just as one of the two nestlings left the nest; pictures show the baby seconds out of the nest, and then a few minutes later at the summit of a nearby snag which was the destination of its first flight. I also had pictures of American Dipper nestlings and their parents at Wild Plum campground near Sierra City. Other pictures show some of the characteristic birds of this great birding area.

Tom, As usual your photos are outstanding. I have never seen a Lewis' Woodpecker fledgling before! What a treat! This trip is also one of our favorites of the year. Thanks again. Eugenia Larson, San Ramon
