Pigeon Guillemots, adult feeding young, August 2016

As we returned to Monterey Harbor from a pelagic outing led by Alvaro Jaramillo, we saw a juvenile Pigeon Guillemot begging for food, an adult responding with fish in bill and the two coming together, the adult placing the fish in the young bird's bill. Then, surprisingly, the two separated, the fish still in the adult's bill, and the juvenile pursuing, apparently still begging. What happened?
