I took these pictures in Shawnee State Forest, in southeastern Ohio, April 21-24, as the migrant songbirds were establishing territories amid blossoming redbud, and the trees were just beginning to leaf in. Thanks to Matthew Studebaker for superb guiding, and fellow photographers Gerhard, Jim, Laura, and Tom for great company. These are a few favorites; many more of my photos from our four days together are in the "More Birds" gallery linked at the bottom of this one.
This trip brought my number of photographed birds for North America to 514, with eight new ones: Blue-winged, Cerulean, and Prairie Warblers; Ovenbird and Louisiana Waterthrush; White-eyed and Yellow-throated Vireos; and Scarlet Tanager.
