This winter Aechmophorus has the typical greenish bill color of Western Grebe, but the eye is not clearly within the gray fringe of the dark crown. On the basis of the color, I've classified it as a Western; compare the bird at Pillar Point a week ago, http://www.pbase.com/image/149875450 .
