The feathers around the base of the bill are missing, a condition I've seen on other Townsend's and Yellow-rumped Warblers in my neighborhood. We have flowering eucalyptus, and there are reports of these trees causing black stains and some loss of feathers near the bill on insectivorous birds that forage in their flowers.
