Birds of this Eurasian old-world warbler species breed in Siberia, are seen in small numbers every year in Alaska, and one every two years on average is reported in California. This bird was identified at an out-of-the-way fennel patch near San Francisco Bay by Ron Thorn on September 24, 2016, and thereafter seen and photographed by many birders from near and far.
