Merlin, male Prairie

Coyote Valley

The light blue-gray back, the rufous flanks, and the broad light-colored bars on the tail identify this as of the "Prairie" (richardsonii) subspecies, rather than the "Taiga" (columbarius) that is more commonly found in our area. Thanks to Bill Bousman and Ryan Phillips for help with the subspecies ID.
