Bromeliad B1a - SV.jpg

Although most bromeliads grow on tree trunks and branches, they are not parasites as they take no food from the tree they grow on, but rather rely on photosynthesis for producing their own food and any nutrients from dead plant and animal material that collects in the water of the "tank" bromeliads. The tree simply provides structural support for the plant to grow on. Plants that grow in this way are called epiphytes.
