In Alberta there are four similar species of ladybugs in the genus Hippodamia. According th John Acorn's wonderful book "Ladybugs of Alberta" in the prairies "individuals with white converging marks on the pronotum are probably five-spots, but those without are impossible to tell glacial ladybugs without dissection of the males.
